The marking of the year is the most simple form of magic.
As this year and this decade draw to a close tonight, we can allow ourselves the slight-of-mind deception that the recent history we collectively made is to be put away in some time-oriented file cabinet in favor of a new beginning. And that this new beginning is somehow less influenced by its yesterday that all of the previous 364, or even 3649 yesterdays of the ‘00 decade. Yet to think so, is a deception. All we really have is a new hope, a prayer and each other’s best intentions to truly turn the page in this hour we share.
Yes, the moment between December 31st and January 1st and the “New Year” it brings.. is a kind of magic that we just simply allow ourselves to believe.
And it is good to do so.
